Partnership in childbirth
Supported Births — also known as partner-assisted or accompanied childbirth — are a standard practice in many countries. Numerous studies and years of clinical experience have confirmed the undeniable benefits of having support during labor.
A woman in labor may be accompanied by her husband. However, experts differ in opinion when it comes to a man’s presence during childbirth. For instance, Michel Odent believes that a husband may introduce feelings of anxiety, restlessness, and tension during labor, which can negatively affect outcomes.
We believe this is not true for all men. However, if your partner is overly sensitive, highly focused on aesthetics, emotionally reactive, or, conversely, authoritarian — or if he is unfamiliar with the nature and physiology of childbirth — then his presence may not provide the support you hope for.
This program is designed for expectant mothers who need the support of a loved one during childbirth but, for various reasons, cannot be accompanied by their partner. It is also for those who need additional reassurance, who feel uncertain or anxious, and who need help navigating this new and important experience.
In such cases, our professional birth assistant — a doula — will be by the mother’s side during the most critical stages of labor. She will help facilitate communication with the medical staff and create an atmosphere of comfort and emotional safety around the mother-to-be.
To ensure a strong connection between the doula and the mother, we offer several introductory meetings as part of the birth support program. If needed, these sessions can include key aspects of childbirth preparation, though they do not replace a full antenatal course.
We offer two levels of psychological support during childbirth:
- Support up to the maternity hospital
- Full psychological support during labor
Throughout the entire birthing process, our doula will be with you in the delivery room. Using special massage techniques, she will help ease labor pain and guide you through breathing techniques during the most intense and joyful moments of your baby's arrival.
After birth, she will stay with you for another two hours and, if desired, can take your baby’s first photo session.
She will also visit you again at home after the baby is born.
